The photo below contains a portion of a note in the Scofield Reference Bible of 1917 at Matthew 5:2. At this note Scofield deals with the subject of the Sermon on the Mount. Many Christians have struggled trying to observe some of the things taught in this sermon while at the same time claiming to be under grace and not law. Before I learned about right division I struggled with many things in the Sermon on the Mount because I was under the incorrect impression that Matthew taught the grace gospel just like Paul. As Scofield points out in this note the Sermon on the Mount gives neither the privilege nor duty of the church. Simply put The Sermon on the Mount is the law of the kingdom. Although Scofield was sometimes inconsistent in right division (because of his Acts 2 position), he does an excellent job showing The Sermon on the Mount is not doctrine for grace believers.
